Near Death Valley National Park, California, there is a place called the Argus Range, a long and narrow mountain chain that runs west alongside the Panamint Valley. It is home to a few historical landmarks, among them, an abandoned tungsten source known as the Defense Mine.
It is a foreboding place, and mandates a tough rig to reach, and an even more rock-steady set of nerves to traverse its ravines and rocks. The guys and gals at WAYALIFE had both, and were up to the task at hand.
Hauling Jeep JK Wranglers over treacherous ground, the group consisted of 12 people all associated with the Wayalife founders, Cindy and Eddie Oh, who produced the video. All told, six Unlimited and one Sport 2-door made the trek that day.
The trail, slathered by severe chip and massive rocks, made for an exciting afternoon adventure as the gang scuttled over the terrain with ease. It was rock crawling at its finest as Jeep after Jeep bounced, weaved, and spun its tires. A fellow traveler named Adam probably had the most fun of anyone on this section as he thrashed around his 2-door Sport looking for the sweet spots.
All that was child’s play compared to the main obstacle: Waterfall Zero, also known as Zero Fall. A smooth rut shaped out of a massive slab, Zero Fall was the most challenging aspect of the journey, as Eddie got in front to survey and then explain the plan of attack to each driver.
With little tractive surface on the driver’s side of Zero Fall, it became necessary to angle from side-to-side to avoid getting flipped or wedged in between the walls. As any rock crawler will tell you, patience and finesse win out every time. Everyone made it through just fine, with only minor casualties including a semi-broken taillight and ripped-off rear fender.
After that ordeal, the gang made its way up some more slopes and boulders, making use of their WARN winches along the way. Hours passed, but the wait was truly worth it, as the Defense Mine finally popped into view.
The video ends with everyone touring the mine, armed with flashlights and cameras. It was a great way to end a hardworking day, and a great video for us all to see. We express our thanks to WAYALIFE for making this awesome video and sharing it with us.
