It goes without saying that some of the best times you have in your life can be spent amongst sand dunes. Whether it’s the far reaches of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates or the coastline mounds near Pismo Beach, there’s just something about blitzing through hills of granulated glass shards that can’t be experienced on other forms of terrain.
And while it’s something of a stretch to imagine Michigan as a hotspot for this kind of activity, the ever-popular Silver Lake sand dunes (categorized as Silver Lake State Park) serve as one of the most popular off-roading locations in the Midwest. From sand rails to side-by-sides and everything in between, all are welcome to come mash the gas pedal and go wild.
The park, which will open soon on April 1st and close on October 31st, played host to the above stunt that was uploaded to YouTube in August of last year. Featuring a single cab “Chevy” pickup done up like the General Lee Dodge Charger from Dukes of Hazzard, we can pretty much expect to see something awesome happen once the cameras starts rolling.
And happen it does. No sooner than the footage starts up does our hero driver (accompanied by his hot girlfriend) huck his vehicle a good distance, landing safely as the King suspension does its duty to soak up the shock like it was a pothole. We can’t say for sure how far he flew, but we’d guess it was at least a good 75-feet, if not more.
A follow-up jump in the latter half of the video goes just as smoothly as the first, showing us just the kind of action folks can expect once the gates open in a few weeks. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have to go find a prerunner, some snacks, and a hotel to stay at…
