Here’s some news from Top Gear and it’s NOT about Jeremy Clarkson’s nutty behavior at a dinner party last week. TG is a love/hate thing for most American auto enthusiasts with some getting a chuckle out of the dry British wit and some wincing every time they hear the posh accent remembering that only a few hundred years ago they were sailing around in white wigs bossing everybody around.
With that out of the way, watch the mysterious Stig thrash a Hennessey VelociRaptor 650 around that familiar old airport, drifting the thing through the corners on a soggy English day.
This big, blown, yellow beast has a TVS2300 Supercharger System bolted on top of the factory 6.2-liter V8, air-to-water intercooler, high flow air induction, and fuel injection upgrades. Also included are a HPE Engine Management Calibration, dyno tuning and road testing, and a one year/12,000 mile limited warranty. Custom wheels, tires, and Hennessy exterior badging let the world know you stepped up for the big kahuna Raptor.
All that hardware translates into 650 hp, a zero to 60 mph time of 5.2 seconds and a quarter mile time of just 13.6 seconds at 103 mph. Check out this big Crew Cab slide around on the rainy, greasy tarmac and although far from agile, not too shabby for a big, muscle bound truck. Hold on to your wig and top hat, Jeeves!
That was good fun. Sadly, the party might be ending soon for the Top Gear franchise, so either this clip is another pairing of US muscle and British wit or a swan song for grumpy old curmudgeon Clarkson and company.
