Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the past 24 months, chances are you’ve at least heard some tidbit of information on SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road, a series founded by racing superstar Robby Gordon in 2013 under the title Stadium Super Trucks. Calling to mind the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group (MTEG) stadium events that ran from 1979 to 1996, the SEFOR races of modern times emulate a great deal of what made the old ones a blast to watch.
2014 marked the second year that SEFOR has been around to entertain folks from all over the U.S. Races took place in locales ranging from St. Petersburg, Florida to Detroit to Toronto, but, as everyone knows, the best is always saved for last. In the case of SEFOR, it’s got to be Vegas, baby.
Courtesy of the guys at /DRIVE, we’re treated to some of the best moments of the last two rounds of SEFOR of 2014, which were held at the MGM Resort’s Village in early November. Gordon won the first of the two races, but lost to 16-year-old Sheldon Creed in the last race, coming in second place as Apdaly Lopez rolled into third place when the checkered flag dropped.
Nevertheless, we’re quite jealous of the spectators who managed to get tickets to the sold-out series finale, mostly because they got to see the three-wheeling, bumper-crunching, and stomach-turning action seen in the video up above, except up close and personal.
For what it’s worth, however, slow-motion playback mixed with dramatic music does add a lot to the high-octane racing we get to watch. Check out the SEFOR website for information on what’s to come in 2015, and also visit the Facebook page for additional pictures, announcements, and more.
