During the 2013 Thanksgiving weekend, sand rail manufacturer Buckshot brought its X2R out to Glamis Dunes for some testing and to show off to the crowd. The Buckshot X2R is basically the Corvette of sand rails. It has a sporty exterior design, Lambo-style doors, and an interior borrowed from a Corvette.
It’s powered by an aluminum big block V8 that produces 1,300 horsepower. The motor is tied to a Albins sequential gear box with a dual-disc 12-inch clutch. It’s brought to a halt by dual-piston brakes front and rear, has King bypass shocks and a chromoly A-arm independent suspension. The X2R stands on a set of 17-inch Race Line bead lock Wheels.
While at Glamis the X2R was pushed to the limit while playing in the sand. Many in attendance were impressed by the sand rail, including five-time off-road racing champion BJ Baldwin. After seeing it blaze through across the dunes, he couldn’t resist asking to take it for a spin.
Baldwin, using his skills gained through years of racing Trophy Trucks, very much enjoyed the X2R’s performance. He flew it over jumps, drifted along the curves of dunes, stood it on the rear wheels and drag raced pre-runners. Judging from the video above, Baldwin was in complete control the whole time. Would you punch the pedal and stand the X2R on its rear wheels?
