If you’ve been keeping up with the Hoonigan YouTube channel, then you know how much they love inviting off-road guys to come out and slay tires, jump, and get wild at the Hoonigan facility. Most of the off-road guys either bring race trucks or prerunners, but this time around they invited Jon Baker and his 1990 Ford LTD. Yup, that’s right, he brought a sedan, but not just any sedan, he brought a long-travel, LS-swapped prerunner sedan. You may have seen this car on the internet at some point, as it’s made quite a name for itself.
The LTD initially started as a car that Jon and his buddy took out to the desert and beat on. Driving street cars in the dirt is strangely fun, and somehow that slowly ended up snowballing into a full-blown prerunner. Under the hood is a 408ci stroker with an LS3 top end making around 500 or 600 horsepower. According to Jon it makes 405whp, and once you factor in drivetrain loss through the TH400 transmission and 33-inch tires, that horsepower estimate is about right. The suspension is mostly custom-built by Kibbetech and cycles around 12 inches of wheel travel front and rear.
Of course, with that suspension travel, Jon had to hit the ramps. After a few good jumps, they wet the lot and Jon did tons of donuts. It was probably one of the longer consistent donut sessions on the show, and it was followed up by an even larger jump. The last time a sedan jumped this high on the show, it didn’t stop in time and crashed into the fence. Luckily, Jon stopped in time.
