The Parker 425 actually started as the Norra Dam 500 back in 1972 and then became the Parker 400 in 1974. Today, rather obviously, this legendary desert race is known as the Parker 425. It’s one of the most iconic American desert races out there and takes place in Parker, Arizona. Thanks to Tuba Art Films, we have an awesome video of the Sourapas Motorsports team racing in the 2018 Parker 425.
Sourapas Motorsports is comprised of Steve Sourapas, Brett Sourapas, Christian Sourapas, and a few others. All three of the Sourapas boys race in unlimited class “trophy trucks”. Brett races truck #88 which is built by Herbst-Smith Fabrication, also known as Terrible Herbst. Christian was racing the #91 truck, also built by Herbst-Smith. Steve races the #6 truck which is built by Geiser brothers. Unfortunately, only two of these trucks finished the Parker 425, as one of them had a high-speed incident with a cow.
As you can see from these photos, the Sourapas boys like to go hard.
The first part of the video covers the time trial portion of the race. At one point Brett gets very close to flipping his truck at high speed, but he manages to regain control of the truck and continue on. The video really gives you a sense of how insane some parts of the Parker 425 are, with some of the Sourapas trucks getting sideways over jumps and struggling to keep the truck in a straight line of the massive whoop sections.
