Ok, so you’ve seen mud drags and mud bogging. And no doubt, you’ve been exposed to 4×4 sand drags. Then there’s rock bouncing like they do down south and rock crawling like they do out west. And of course, you’ve seen off-road racing across vast desert terrain, and in stadiums and on dirt tracks.
But off-road racing on snow?! Well, you’re in for a real treat if you’ve never witnessed the Red Bull Frozen Rush. The event redefines snowsports in a head-to-head off-road race on the ski slopes. This year, 900-horsepower Pro4 trucks will defy the icy cold conditions to tear up the powder, leap over jumps and climb icy inclines at Sunday River ski resort in Maine. Eight drivers and trucks will test their skills over ice and snow, racing to be the Red Bull mountain champ.
The drivers will pilot their high-horsepower 4×4 trucks up ski trails and sluice through slalom gates. For a preview of the action, take a look at the video above. The race format is a bracketed, single-elimination style event, with two drivers on course at a time. The United States Auto Club sanctions and oversees the competition; and judging from past years’ events, Off Road Xtreme is sure the 2014 Frozen Rush will be an experience you don’t want to miss.
The 2014 Red Bull Frozen Rush takes place Friday, January 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Sunday River Ski Resort, South Ridge Lodge. Walk-up viewing is free and welcomed.
