If there’s a weird idea that involves a sketchy vehicle and questionable goals, the guys at Novice Garage will take it and run with it. Their YouTube channel is devoted to hilarious ideas like installing wheels made of wood onto a quad, or running Lysol disinfectant spray as nitrous oxide (don’t ask me how it works, just watch the video).
In their latest video, the guys go back to basics with one of the fundamental dreams of all off-road kind – taking a vehicle and hucking if off of a jump. In this case, it’s a 1988 Jeep Cherokee that they bought for $700.
Of course, the vehicle does run and drive. How well it does those things is another question. The ignition tumbler is broken so it doesn’t require a key to start, the front brakes won’t work, and the steering wheel wobbles, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
So it goes that the boys take the XJ to TexPlex in Midlothian, Texas to see how the Jeep will do when put through its paces. After some dry runs and a busted battery starts leaking acid everywhere, the guys figure out how to get the Jeep running again and back on the track.
The Jeep goes flying.
The time comes and the stage is set as the Jeep comes barreling down towards a ramp with a decent takeoff and a sizable landing zone. It performs admirably, landing with all of its wheels intact and dislodging the grille. The driver, thankfully, is uninjured, but we’ll have to wait and see how the Jeep fared on the next video.
