Video: King of the Hammers on Daily Transmission Tangents

King of the Hammers is a desert race that was created in 2007 and it’s unlike any other desert race. What makes King of the Hammers so unique is how it combines high-speed desert racing like you might see in Baja 1000 or the Mint 400, with low-speed rock crawling. This forces the race vehicles to be good at both forms of racing and can make the competition extremely crazy. One of Hoonigan’s latest “Daily Transmission Tangents” episodes was simply hanging out with Larry Chen as he photographed the race.

Right when the video starts, Larry is walking to a new location to get some good photos. Along the walk to the location the encounter a racer who is swiftly walking past them. When asked what happened, the racer simply replied “I broke an axle shaft. Now I’m going to find tools because I broke my tools.” Shortly after the same racer can be seen running back to wherever he broke his truck with a tool in his hand.

The racer can be seen walking by at first and then running back with a tool in his hand.

Once Larry has reached the spot they had initially been walking to, a broken truck came through. The truck appeared to be unable to put it’s power to the ground properly and was stuck in a narrow rock crawling section. Luckily, another racer ended up right behind the broken truck and simply pushed him forward and mostly out of the way. The broken truck had to get slightly run over by the trucks coming through the section, as it was too tight to completely avoid the broken truck.

Larry traveled to the next spot which he particularly loved do to the great foreground and background, making for excellent photos. Of course, the video is full of awesome King of the Hammers race trucks conquering some gnarly terrain. Check it out.
