Mercedes is well-known throughout the auto industry for making some of the nicest cars on the road. While they have typically produced high-quality luxury cars, Mercedes is also known for making SUVs, including their highly regarded G-Class wagon. Recently released is the video above that highlights Mercedes’ second dip into the hardcore off-road market with the show-car G 500 4×4² that is eerily similar to the G 63 AMG 6×6, minus one axle.
Developed with a 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo powerplant, this motor is both potent and cutting edge with the turbos being mounted inside the motor’s “V” or valley configuration. What’s more, the truck features full-time all-wheel-drive, three lockable differentials – that can be locked on the fly, and portal solid axles front and rear that give this truck a ridiculous 17.7-inches of ground clearance. Designed to tackle the toughest terrain on earth, Mercedes has equipped the G 500 4×4² to take on any kind of terrain – from sand dunes to 39-inches of water fording ability.
Even better, Mercedes equipped the G 500 4×4² with 37×12.5R18 tires straight from the factory on real beadlock wheels. It’s not all show and no go either – as it has two spring/damper struts used in parallel per wheel and offers a lot of adjustability depending on the drive mode.
²The video above provides some insight into the life of what it would be like owning this truck. From its strong road manners to driving up rocks and uneven terrain, the G 500 4×4² seems equipped to take on anything that is thrown its way. So what do you think?
