Video: Herrator Desert Attack Car Runs Holley HP EFI Controlled LS3

Herrator-2Just in case you’ve ever wondered, it should be clear by now that we dig well-built race vehicles of any kind. And when we first found this video of the Herrator off-road race and rally car, we must have watched it half-a-dozen times before we could pull ourselves away and get on with the task at hand–writing a story about it and getting it out to you.

Herrador Motorsport, the builder of the incredible Herrator, is located in Valencia, Spain, and specializes in creating the two-wheel-drive Herrator Buggy for various race teams around the world. It has its own engineering, design, and manufacturing departments from which Herrador Motorsport has provided rally raid (what the Europeans call long-distance endurance off-road races such as the Baja 1000) technical services since 2003. The company has been involved in the African and South American Dakar Rally, as well as the FIA World Championship races.

The Herrator you see in the video above and the images here in this report are of its latest vehicle. The vehicle measures 192-inches long, 87-inches wide, and 71-inches high. It runs on a 114-inch wheelbase, and weights just over 3,300-pounds. The abundant chassis-frame work is all TIG welded 4130 cromoly steel built to FIA regulations.

Its massive rear axle is slung by a trailing arm system, and the front end is an IFS setup. Front shocks are dual Kings, a 2.0 coilover and 2.5 bypass on each wheel. In the rear, jounce and rebound are controlled by a pair of 3.0 coilovers and 3.5 bypass shocks on both sides. Hydraulic jacks can quickly hike the car off its 35×12.50R15 Cooper Discoverer STT tires and 15-inch Walker Evans wheels when necessary.

At the rear of this mid-engine racer is a 405 hp 6.2-liter V8 LS3, controlled by a Holley HP EFI system, and backed up by a Fortin FRS5 sequential gearbox. Bringing all this mass to a quick halt is the job of Wilwood six-piston caliper, 12-inch discs on all four corners.
