Video: Furious 7 And The Off-Road 1970 Dodge Charger R/T

The Fast and the Furious movie series has been a game changer for automotive-focused movies since the first installment hit theaters in June of 2001. Very rarely does a movie create a cult-like following like that of the Fast and the Furious fans and bring to light some awesome automotive enthusiast segments at the same time.

f74With a great cast that really made a name for themselves off of the series, actors like Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker were able to stick around throughout the series in an effort to make the sequels much better. But the human cast wasn’t the only thing that filled theaters right out of the gate for the Fast and the Furious series of films.

f73If anything, the cast of cars was just as big of a draw for thrill-seeking movie goers to go and check out the latest installment over the years. This was for good reason too, as we have seen nearly all segments of the car enthusiast world over the years in the movies – from big-block muscle cars built for the dragstrip to drift cars and trophy trucks, the Fast and the Furious series has had a complete lineup of over-the-top cars.

Thanks to the all-star cast of cars and people, the Fast and the Furious series has taken movie goers all over the world as well. From Brazil to Tokyo and back to the good ole’ U.S.A., car enthusiasts have been able to go all the way around the globe as they have travelled with the Fast and the Furious cast.

While the series started off with some pretty believable stunts and action, it has definitely gone a bit out of this world as far as believability is concerned as the series has evolved – but that’s ok as it’s Hollywood, of course. As the seventh installment of the series, Furious 7 was released on April 3rd, 2015 to a worldwide audience that was very anxious to see Paul Walker’s final role in the series. So far, the movie has been welcomed with positive reviews from both the press and paying customers alike, which is great to see, especially for a niche-based movie.

f72So for those of us that don’t “live our life a quarter-mile at a time,” you may be wondering what the Furious 7 movie has to do with off-road. Well, as the video above shows, there was a fully custom black 1970 Dodge Charger R/T featured in the movie that was built to go off-road. Built by Dennis McCarthy who has a long standing relationship building cars for the Fast and the Furious series in his southern California shop, this Charger looks like a great time.

f75f7With a full roll cage, vertically mounted dual spares out back, a lifted ride height, and some serious suspension travel, the 1970 Dodge Charger looks like something out of a movie! Oh wait, it is. Regardless, the car is far from the usual build that most restorers do with a vintage Charger, and we applaud their efforts because it looks great. Check out the video above and go see Furious 7 in theaters while you can to see this off-roader on the silver screen!
