Video: Cantina for the Con: Kicking Off Another Year of the Rubicon

Whether you’re a diehard off-roading fan or a newbie to the back trails of America, you’ve more than likely heard of the Rubicon Trail. Traveling through some of the most beautiful scenery the country has to offer, the trail runs from Georgetown, a small hamlet in the foothills east of Sacramento, California, over the spine of the Sierra Nevada, to Lake Tahoe on the Nevada/California border, winding it’s rugged and treacherous way through the Tahoe and Eldorado national forests. And while the area has become increasingly popular for off-road enthusiasts, it still remains a legislative land mine for the community.

rtf_cantina_for_the_con_eventTo protect the famous 4×4 trail from closure and to promote the responsible year-round use of the property by all legal motorized vehicles, the Rubicon Trail Foundation was formed.

A recognized non-profit organization, the Rubicon Trail Foundation has taken it upon itself and its supporters to promote the health of the trail, mobilizing maintenance efforts, promoting responsible use of the area and fighting against the closure or restriction of the area.

Recently, the Rubicon Trail Foundation had its 10th Annual Cantina for the Con event at the Loon Lake Spillway.

An ever-growing event, this year’s festivities brought out hundreds of off-road enthusiasts, over 300 raffle prizes, dozens of sponsors and manufacturers, and of course, thousands of tacos! Check out the festivities from the event in the Bower Motorsports Media video above.

As the annual fundraiser for the Foundation, the event brought out hundreds of supporters who all believe in the work that the Foundation is doing for the off-road community.

This year, dozens of volunteers came out to serve tacos and hand out raffle tickets for over 300 items valued over $10,000. Raffle items for this year’s event were provided by companies like Hellfire Fabworks, Talking Threads, Allpro Offroad, and Reid Racing.

With every cent of the taco and raffle ticket sales going to the Foundation, this year’s event proved to be an amazing success. Of course, it wouldn’t have been possible without all the Foundation sponsors, like Falken Tire, Raceline Wheels, Jeepers Jamboree, CORVA, Cal4Wheel, J&W Jeep, Napier Enterprises and countless more.

Also up for grabs at the event was a 1979 Toyota truck completely decked out for off-roading adventures thanks to Trail-Gear and Dave’z. With one $10 ticket, Mike Fisher of Georgetown, California was the lucky winner that walked away with the unique vehicle.

The Rubicon Trail Foundation continues to fight for the responsible use of the Rubicon Trail System, promoting off-roading adventures and accountable use of the areas. Without the Foundation, it’s anyone’s guess as to how accessible the trail would be today. Because of that we are excited for next year’s Cantina for the Con event!
