Products can look great online or on someone else’s vehicle, but knowing the details behind the part and what it really can do is even better. Wilco Offroad helps us and its customers better understand their products in their latest episode of “Guide to the Gear.”
This video showcases their Hitchgate, and everything that this tire carrier has to offer. With many different tire carriers out few have the features that Wilco’s does. The first key thing to know is this tire carrier will mount to any 2-inch Class III hitch receiver leaving the ability to add this to almost any application.
Trucks, SUVs, vans, and even motorhomes can put it to use. Afraid of using loosing the ability to tow? Wilco covered that in the design as well. The Hitchgate is tow-rated at 7,500 pounds trailer weight, and 750 pounds tongue weight and by itself the Hitchgate has been rated as a Class IV hitch.
With the pull of a pin the tire carrier swings open with easy and full access to everything on the other side. There is an offset mount, and centered mount option on the Hitchgate. The offset is 10 inches offset to the driver side, which when opened allows the tire to be that much further away from the brake lights.
The tire carrier can handle up to a 40-inch spare tire or 150 pounds of tire and wheel. There are also 15 different options for customizing the Hitchgate to your vehicle with an optional license plate relocation bracket, horizontal or vertical HiLift mount, and fuel can mounts.
The Hitchgate has plenty of options and serves a greater purpose then just being a tire carrier. This product really allows people to prep your ride to get outside. What vehicle would you add this to?
