Video: 2019 Ford Ranger Torture Tested

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Ford is bringing the Ranger back to the US after killing it in 2012. Building an entirely new truck introduces a lot of problems that can only be found with extensive testing. Not just any kind of testing can uncover possible issues; it needs to be severe torture testing, which is exactly what Ford did with the 2019 Ranger. This testing helps them live up to the name “Built Ford Tough.”

During these torture tests, Ford put the Ranger through extreme heat and cold, brutal terrain, and other extensive tests to find issues before they arise in the production models. Luckily for us, Ford put together this short video showing off some of the torture testings they have been doing.

The first location Ford showed off in the video was Romeo, Michigan, where the weather was all the way down in the 20-degree Fahrenheit range. In Michigan, they were doing testing on extremely bumpy roads. These roads were so rough that they were using robots behind the wheel on the Ranger, presumably because a human would not enjoy that kind of torture. The testing then moved over to Dearborn, Michigan, where the Ranger was strapped to a machine designed to jiggle the suspension around for days on end, which allows them to find any possible squeaks or rattles that might arise over more extended periods of time.

Ford then made the Ranger tow an 11.4 mile stretch of road with six-percent grades and temperatures up to 100 degrees, which put the powertrain and brakes under lots of thermal stress. Ford continued to test the Ranger in harsh conditions to make sure that the production model won’t have any hidden issues that owners will have to deal with.
