Ice racing is no easy feat, but with some studded tires and a bit of practice, it can be a whole lot of fun. A couple weeks ago, we got to experience ice racing for ourselves, taking to Colorado’s High Country for the annual Our Gang 4 Wheelers Ice Racing Championships. But ice racing is more than whipping some powerful projects around a frozen lake–it’s a passion, a family affair, and a way of life. Check out the 2014 multi-race winning Jimmy Olson and his take on ice racing in the Discovery Channel video above.
During the 2014 championships, Olson took a number of titles, including first place in the Competition Studs and Cheaters races. Obviously, this wasn’t Olson’s first time around the icy track; rather, he’s been around the circuit all his life as a third-generation ice racer. In fact, Olson’s family was one of the founding families of the Our Gang 4 Wheelers and its ice racing sport.
As the owner of Edgewater Jeep in Denver, Colorado, Olson gets to dabble in his love for off-road vehicles every day of the week, but his true passion is working on his own projects and taking to the ice for some friendly competition, something we can all relate to in some aspects.
Part of that passion comes from taking his ride to the next level, and over the past several years, Olson has honed in on what could be the winning combination for ice competitions. But we won’t get too deep into that now, as Olson and his race rig is the subject of one of our next vehicle features.
Be sure to check back soon, as Olson’s ice racing passion and competitive Jeep come to life right here on Off Road Xtreme!
