Are you the type who is constantly testing your vehicle’s capabilities off-road? The team over at Bilstein have you covered, with the all-new B8 5160 series off-road shock absorber.

Engineered to be the ideal solution for lifted truck, Jeep, and SUV platforms, the 5160 series allows maximum vehicle control over the harshest terrain thanks to its remote reservoir, and self-adjusting deflective disc valving. While the prior of the two increases shock oil capacity for greater heat dissipation, the latter reacts immediately to surface changes, enabling greater control and ride comfort.

Other features include a 46mm monotube design for consistent, fade-free performance, chromium tubes and low-friction bearings, a swivel banjo fitting for 360 degrees of mounting rotation, and zinc plating for increased longevity. Made in the USA, and known for increasing wheel travel on most applications, the B8 5160 series appears to be a winner on virtually every level. While reservoir mounts do come with each kit, we would suggest upgrading to a set of those spiffy black billet aluminum Bilstein reservoir clamps.

As with all Bilstein products, these monotube gas-pressure shock absorbers are designed to provide greater damping power due to their larger pistons. This translates to improved handling, more consistent performance, and longer service life. Bilstein also uses what it likes to call “upside-down monotube technology,” which allows the piston rod to be installed at the bottom of the shock tube body. These shocks offer superior support and lateral force distribution than what’s found in traditional twin-tube setups, thus allowing the torsional strength between the wheel and vehicle body to be increased significantly.
