When it comes to staples in the off-road community, very few are as strong as the legacy that the Toyota Land Cruiser has built. With its sheer size, strong low-end-grunt powerplants, iconic four-wheel-drive system, and proven track record off-road, it’s hard to find a vehicle with as much well earned off-road merit.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80 came with either a 4.0 or 4.5-liter inline-six powerplant originally, which is what makes this particular truck that’s up for sale so unique. Sitting as far from stock as possible, the Land Cruiser prerunner build in question that we found on Pirate4x4 has a host of features that makes it far from stock – it’s just not finished yet. This truck could be yours however, as the owner is selling it in its semi-completed current state and is even kind enough to finish the job for the new owner if the price is right.
Going as far into left field as possible, the owner installed a 383 ci Chevy V8 in a mid-motor configuration that is connected to a TH400 transmission and Atlas transfer case. What’s more, the Land Cruiser sits fully caged and widened 12-inches with the intention of seating four passengers comfortably in the Sparco race seats. When you look even closer, there are a lot of really cool features like the cantilever front suspension, the fuel cell that’s mounted where the engine used to be under the hood, and the gigantic BFGoodrich tires that are just begging to be punished in Baja.
For only $35,000 as is, this truck really is a great deal considering all the time and money that has gone into it, but the question remains. If you were to buy this would you finish it yourself or pay the owner to finish it? Let us know in a comment below!
