The Jeep brand has a longstanding reputation for creating durable do-it-all off-road vehicles, and the new 2024 Gladiator is just the latest example. Owners of previous Gladiator models can attest to its strength, maneuverability, and versatility in rugged environments.
The 2024 Gladiator’s off-road prowess has finally been unleashed with its official unveiling at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show. Here is a look at everything you need to know about what the newest Jeep truck has to offer.
Best-in-Class Power
Looking under the hood, the 2024 Gladiator has the same Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine as the 2023 model. This engine is the only option available at the moment, as we already know the Gladiator dropped the 3.0L Eco-Diesel V6. But the Pentastar is tried and true with 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, more than enough to handle tough road conditions. A 4XE and 392-horsepower V-8 engine may become available later in the year.
The 2024 Gladiator’s level of power looks to outmatch every other truck in its class. The vehicle boasts an unsurpassable (gas) towing capacity of 7,700 pounds and a max 4×4 payload capacity of 1,725 pounds — slight upgrades from the 2023 model. With these numbers, off-road enthusiasts can confidently haul anything, anytime, anywhere.
The 2024 Jeep Gladiator's towing capacity reaches 7,700 pounds.
Fans who prefer EVs will also be happy to learn that all Jeeps, including the Gladiator, will have hybrid or electric variants by 2025. The growth of electric off-roading technology has made EVs stronger and more viable alternatives to ICE vehicles in the last few years. An electric 2024 Gladiator might be worth the wait.
2024 Jeep Gladiator Trim Model Specifications
The latest additions to the Gladiator lineup — the Mojave X and Rubicon X — also bring more function than older models. The Mojave X continues to specialize in sand dunes and other fast-paced desert environments. At the same time, the Rubicon X can easily tackle tenuous rugged terrain, such as rock crawling and challenging trails. There are also several American Expedition Vehicle (AEV) upgrade packages as well.
Rubicon off-road features include:
- Rock-Trac part-time transfer case with 4:1 4LO ratio
- Electronic front sway-bar disconnect
- Tru-Lok front- and rear-axle lockers
- Dana 44 heavy-duty solid front and rear axles with 4.10 axle ratio
- 17-inch aluminum wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires
- Red accents and tow hooks
- Steel rock rails for the cab and bed corners
Mojave’s proven high-speed desert runner features:
- Command-Trac part-time transfer case with a 2.72:1 4LO ratio
- FOX 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks with reservoirs
- FOX front hydro jounce bumpers
- 1-inch front suspension lift
- Tru-Lok rear-axle locker
- Dana 44 heavy-duty solid front and rear axles with 4.10 axle ratio
- 17-inch aluminum wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires
- Orange accents and tow hooks
- Steel rock rails for the cab
- Performance hood with center scoop
- Sport steering wheel
- Sport seats with performance bolsters
- Off Road+ with high-speed mode for the rear locker
Mojave X and Gladiator Rubicon X add even more off-road features standard:
- Full-time transfer case
- Integrated off-road camera
- Front and rear steel bumpers
New for 2024, upgraded Gladiator Willys raises the bar with added capability standard:
- Tru-Lok rear-axle locker.
- Off-road+ mode adjusts throttle, transmission shift points, and traction control for peak performance on higher-speed passes on sand terrain, as well as during low-speed rock crawling. It also enables the rear axle to be locked in 4HI.
- Trailer tow with programmable auxiliary switches.
AEV Package Options
The 2024 Gladiator can be enhanced with three new AEV upfit packages, each offering additional off-road capabilities:
- Upcountry: 2-inch suspension lift, 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires, special edition wheels, and fender flares.
- Upcountry +: Same features as the Upcountry plus an extra beefy front bumper and non-winch cover plate.
- Level II: 2.5-inch suspension lift, same extra beefy front bumper, 37-inch BFG tires, 57-degree approach angle, 26-degree breakover angle, 34-degree departure angle, front skid plate, Warn Zeon 10-S winch.
The Gladiator can handle any off-road adventure on its own, but these AEV packages take it to another level. Buyers can place an uplift order through a local Jeep dealership instead of making all the modifications one by one.
Gladiator owners should also consider making popular Wrangler modifications to improve off-road performance because the vehicles are so similar. High-performance mufflers, transfer tanks, and extra storage compartments are just a few examples.
Familiar and Unfamiliar Exterior Features
Jeep has added many new off-road features to the 2024 Gladiator, some of which are tough to notice at first glance. For example, the ground clearance is 11.6 inches instead of 11.1 inches from previous models. That extra half-inch doesn’t seem like much, but experienced off-roaders know that every centimeter counts when doing rock crawls or fording streams.
Customers will also have nine interior colors to choose from: Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Silver Zynith, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Sarge, Bright White, Black, and the new Anvil hue.
The updated seven-slot grille should look familiar, as the 2024 Jeep Wrangler debuted the same design in April 2023. The new textured slots keep the engine cool and support longer off-road expeditions. Upon closer inspection, the Gladiator’s exterior looks almost identical to the Wrangler, aside from the longer wheelbase and cargo bed.
Perhaps the most significant design change is the soft body top. The hard top was the standard for previous Gladiator models, but now the soft top is the default design of the entry-level Sport trim. Those worried about vehicle security can always add deck enclosure kits to keep their cargo safe.
The unique body design also allows for storage and protective additions while considering height and width clearance. Owners can add exterior cargo racks, rock rails, fender flares, wind deflectors, and other aftermarket accessories for extended off-road adventures. The 2024 Gladiator remains the perfect vehicle for easy modifications.
The 2024 Gladiator also offers new 17-inch machined wheels for the Sport, Sport S, Willys, Mojave X, and Rubicon X. These updated options have a clear-coat finish and tiny grooves in the aluminum known as computerized lathe impressions. The extra protection helps the wheels maintain a polished appearance and withstand various off-road environments.
Major Interior Upgrades
Many of the 2024 Gladiator and Wrangler interior features are the same. Both vehicles include the flashy 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is 4 inches longer than the previous display. The screen’s software has wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and improved voice commands.
The Gladiator now includes Jeep Adventure Guides — made famous by the Wrangler — that provide detailed descriptions of 62 trails selected by the driver through the navigation system. The UConnect system also offers the Trails Offroad feature, which provides full access to over 3,000 trail guides nationwide.

Standard on 2024 Jeep® Gladiator models equipped with the Uconnect 5 Nav 12.3-inch touchscreen radio, the Jeep Adventure Guides with Trails Offroad delivers comprehensive off-road trail guides for the 62 Jeep® Badge of Honor trails loaded right into the Uconnect 5 system, with an upgradable subscription that unlocks full catalog of 3,000-plus Trails Offroad trail guides.
Other new features make the 2024 Gladiator feel like a luxury SUV. The 12-way power front seats provide personalized comfort and are optimized for driver visibility. Jeep has even tested them for water fording, ensuring everyone stays dry when driving through creeks and streams.
Jeep’s Off-Road Legacy Continues to Grow
The 2024 Jeep Gladiator looks like it will outperform its predecessors and potentially outpace the 2024 Wrangler in popularity. In any case, Jeep’s legacy as a premier manufacturer of off-road vehicles continues to grow. The Gladiator has no weaknesses when it comes to off-road performance. Everything is in place for it to become one of the all-time greats.
