Not to be outdone by Toyota and TRD, Nissan and its performance arm, NISMO, debuted off-road parts for their mid-size trucks and SUVs at the 2021 Overland Expo West. Ranging from practical to pretty – these new parts will certainly get your 2022 Frontier overlanding in no time. They will come with dealership warranties, too.
NISMO
Overlanding has become very popular with the import crowd. Transitioning from their sport compacts to mid-sized trucks, these new enthusiasts have become very excited by the limitless exploration opportunities that come naturally with off-roading. One of the big names in that world is NISMO, which is an acronym for Nissan Motorsports. Now, they look to add some performance and pop to Nissan mid-size vehicles including the 2022 Frontier.
Overlanding Expo West Debuts
At their booth during the 2021 Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, AZ, was a 2022 Nissan Frontier decked out in NISMO Off Road parts. Many of the parts were overland enthusiast specific, but not all. Many of these parts are also compatible with older models like the 2005 to 2015 Xterra and 2005 to 2012 Pathfinder. However, it was the 22 Frontier that takes center stage.
“The all-new 2022 Frontier provides adventurers with an authentic midsize truck built to thrive in off-road and overlanding environments,” said Michael Soutter, vice president, Nissan Aftersales U.S. “The thousands of overlanding enthusiasts at Overland Expo West will see first-hand how these new NISMO Off Road parts can help elevate Frontier to an even higher level of style and capability – and we can’t wait to see them on the trail soon.”
Overland Frontier
That 2022 Frontier was decked out for pure overland adventuring. Sitting on top of the NISMO Off Road Overland Bed Rack was their rooftop tent. The two are made for each other, but the tent can be attached to most any roof rack. It weighs 132-pounds but can hold up to 600-pounds. It is also spacious at nearly eight-feet long, 4.6-feet wide, and 4.2-feet tall in the center. Getting out is easy thanks to its adjustable aluminum ladder that stretches out to nearly seven-feet.
The Overland Bed Rack isn’t to be ignored, either. There will be two versions available – a low and a high. The high version was displayed on the 2022 Frontier and fits the 2005 to 2022 model years. That’s because it can attach via the Nissan Utili-Track system or directly to the top of the bed.
The shining example was the NISMO Off Road Four-Inch Lights. It features a driving beam pattern with an output of 3,060 lumens. It is all LED with a two-amp draw and a wiring for white back-lighting without running the primary LEDs. These round lights will also be available for the 2005 to 2022 Frontier, 2005 to 2015 Xterra, and 2005 to 2012 Pathfinder.
Other NISMO Parts
While touring the Frontier in person, we spoke with Carl Phillips, Motorsports Manager for Nissan Group of North America. “Nissan Motorsports’ goal with NISMO Off Road is to provide Nissan owners with a range of off-road products that enhance the performance and capability of popular Nissan trucks and SUVs,” shared Carl. “As Nissan’s aftermarket alternative, we make it easy for our owners to purchase NISMO Off Road products through their local dealers. The product range is currently available for current and previous generation Frontier, and the second-generation Xterra. Plans for future products include Titan, Pathfinder and Armada in the coming year.”
We were so stoked to see a couple Frontiers at the show and the one decked out with the overlanding gear showed a lot of potential. There are other NISMO Off Road parts available from Nissan. Stay tuned for move coverage on the 2021 Overland Expo West.
