On August 1st of 2021, Toyota Gazoo Racing announced the upcoming reproduction of Land Cruiser Heritage Parts for the 40 Series (1960-1984) in celebration of the nameplate’s 70th anniversary. This comes as part of the Gazoo Racing Heritage Parts Project – a commitment to keeping classic Toyota vehicles alive by reproducing and selling discontinued parts through a special collaboration with suppliers.

The Land Cruiser has long promised “to take people anywhere and everywhere and come back alive and safe.”

This came as great news to the 40 Series’ fervent fan base of collectors as parts for the vehicles have become harder and harder to find over time as the now 37+ year-old trucks are deteriorating.

Recent years have seen a shortage of spare parts, with Land Cruiser owners expressing fears they will no longer be able to drive their vehicles.” shares Toyota, it hopes customers “Can continue to drive their cherished vehicles in safety and with peace of mind,

Toyota sent out surveys to exclusive Land Cruiser dealers and fan club reps from around the world. This, in an effort to collect info on the greatest needs for those hoping to keep these classic off-roaders alive. Toyota announced that it intends to sell parts “related to the critical functions of driving, turning, and braking.” This includes engines, drivelines, exhaust systems, and related parts. So as early as January 2022 we could very well be able to order brand-new 2F engines, transmissions, headers, and more. That’s just around the corner, and for those of us who own these vehicles, we couldn’t be more excited.

More to Come

Toyota committing to keeping these classic vehicles alive is a breath of fresh air. In a world where auto manufacturers would prefer you buy the latest and greatest, Toyota is going against the grain. But honestly, the timeless nature of the entire Land Cruiser line will forever be worth saving.

Toyota has also offered a questionnaire form for reproduction requests – meaning it will consider market feedback in the reproduction of parts for other classic Toyota models as well. To date, Toyota has released heritage parts for models such as the A70 and A80 Supra, 2000GT, and tuner favorite AE86 Corolla (made famous by Initial D).

But the good news doesn’t end there for Land Cruiser fans. Toyota intends to mull over heritage parts for later generations of Land Cruiser as well. In all likelihood, we’ll soon see parts for the beloved 60 Series Land Cruisers as well as the collector market for this generation is quickly heating up.
