Last year, Hoonigan and Microsoft teamed up together to bring us an icon from the legendary Xbox franchise-Halo. No, we’re not talking about Master Chief, but the Halo Warthog. The four-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle is now a reality and has been recreated as the spitting image of the ATV from the video game.

The Warthog is one of the most recognizable fictional assault vehicles in the world. To ensure that its recreation does justice to the game’s legacy, Hoonigan teamed up with the California-based off-road outfit- Savvy Off Road. Professional off-road racer, Gerald Lee from Savvy helped advise and coordinate the special high-performance off-road chassis.

Highlights of the Halo Warthog:

• Four-wheel steer
• Full hydraulic steering for both front and rear
• Gearstar SuperMatic transmission
• Pro-Billet Torque Converters
• Atlas two-speed transfer case
• King off-Road racing shocks system

The full-scale version of the off-roader is based on a Kevin Carroll chassis that was sourced from Red Dot Engineering. The cabin of the donor vehicle was not nearly large enough to match the project’s requirements. Therefore, the chassis had to be chopped and modified to fit the life-size Warthog dimensions.

Once the chassis was re-configured, the team installed a 438 cubic-inch Ford Windsor V8 motor, which was coupled to a pair of giant turbochargers. Hoonigan claims that its re-tuned V8 produces around 1,000 horsepower. Interestingly enough, Hoonigan had to install this over the top powerful motor to make Halo Warthog hit 100 MPH, which is something that Microsoft requested.

For the uninitiated, in the video game, the Halo Warthog is energized by a 12-cylinder engine with hydrogen injection. Hoonigan and Microsoft have released a series of videos about the off-roader. The vehicle recently took to the red carpet and made an appearance during the Free Guy premiere.
