By now many of us are sweltering in heat, and wishing for some cool air and some of the chilly weather we all were cursing a few months back. But in Michigan, it was just last month that the off-road and 4×4 enthusiasts could still play in the icy cold of the snow. And that’s what we have for your viewing pleasure today!

Straight from the Griztek Auto Appearance and Offroad, and Shanty Creek Resorts, we are are proud to bring you some of the wildest action we have ever seen on the ski slope. This is the the 2014 Schuss Mountain Snow Challenge.  A few years ago this event was born in a little resort town of Mancelona, Michigan. Little did anyone know that it would become it would grow to become a huge event off-road event in the region. Once you’ve watched the video above of the April 2014 Griztek Snow Challenge, you’ll understand why.

It’s a two Day event, running Saturday and Sunday, this year it was April 4-6, Friday being registration day. The first round is a double elimination. Racers losing in the first round will shuffle back into a losers round for another chance to advance. Winners from first round will advance but wait for the losers bracket to complete. After that it’s a single elimination.

There is only one driver per vehicle. No multiple driver vehicles are allowed, but multiple vehicle entries are allowed, but each vehicle must be registered in different classes. (You can not race two different vehicles in the same class unless the second vehicle is entered with a separate driver). Multiple tire entries are allowed. First and second place winners in each class receive money and trophy. Third and fourth place finishers get trophies, and have a heck of a good time.

The are six competition classes: Sportsman Class (SC 33-inch tires and down, SC 34-37-inch tires DOT), DOT 32-35-inch tires, DOT 36-inch tires and up, AnyTire, SuperMod, and new for 2014 was the nitrous class! Grooved tires are allowed as long as they were originally DOT approved tires.
