We’re sure that you’re aware that the vehicle you own, no matter what the vehicle, is put through a series of tests to make sure that it won’t self destruct upon use. You are pretty rough on your car after all, right? Well, we bet that you didn’t know the rigor of these tests was taken this far.

Ford takes the torture test to a whole new level. After all, they need to back up that “Built Ford Tough” slogan somehow. After being alerted of some wear and tear issues with the seats on some older models of the F-150, Ford sprung into action to make sure they could fix that problem in their 2015 F-150.

Just how do they test them? They start of with a roster of man’s men, the big burly type that you’d expect to live in the woods and eat nothing but dried meat and today’s catch. The mens’ jeans were caked in what Ford calls “Arizona dust.” The dust contains super fine particles chosen by design to expedite the wear and tear process. Additional dust was added to the seat to make it all the more tough on the leather surface to emulate a truck used in the toughest work conditions. Over the course of several days the men would then monotonously get in and out of the truck over 10,000 times.

All of this was done in the name of training a machine to learn to do the process in order to take a step toward automation. With all the prep work that goes into improving the longevity of the materials used in the process, we bet that you’ll never sit the same again.
