First Look: 2020 Polaris GENERAL XP 1000

Polaris has released the newest model in its 2020 line up, the GENERAL XP1000. The GENERAL falls smack dab in the middle of the Polaris UTV lineup, striking a balance between speed, utility, and go-anywhere fun. With the 2020 model line, the GENERAL XP1000 has taken the place of the GENERAL 1000 EPS. It’s also received some updates that make this all-around UTV an even heavier hitter in the segment. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new!

The New GENERAL XP1000 promises to be a lead contender in the all-around UTV segment.

Boasting the same 100HP DOHC powerplant as the 2019 EPS model, the 2020 XP1000 has not received a power boost over its predecessor. In fact, with a 168-pound increase, the new model may appear to have taken a step backwards on paper. That weight, however, comes from some exciting places.

The first thing you may notice with the two models side by side is the larger rollers. 30-inch Pro Armor Crawlers are the new standard over the previous models 27-inch Maxxis Coronado tires. The rims also got a small increase in size moving from 14 to 15 inches. Overall, this has increased ground clearance by 1.5 inches.

Maximizing on that newly increased ground clearance, the 1000XP has also received an upgrade in the suspension department. All new Walker Evans Velocity series piggyback shocks are standard for the new model. Combined with those shocks are high-clearance, long-travel arms on the front and rear, offering up to 14 inches of suspension travel. This is a 1.5-inch increase up front from last year’s Fox-based suspension setup.

Inside, the 2020 model has received a few upgrades as well. Now boasting a Rockford Fosgate audio system standard on the deluxe model, there is also an option to upgrade even further adding a seven-inch GPS control center, upgraded speakers and a 10-inch subwoofer to keep the trail filled with tunes.

On the whole, the all-new 2020 Polaris General has taken a leap in the all-around UTV category, throwing down a gauntlet with incredible suspension travel and clearance. For more info on the latest models, visit Polaris’ website.
