Details on Bollinger Motors All-Electric B2 Pickup Truck 4×4

It may not be for everyone, but then again, some things aren’t engineered for the masses to begin with either. When Bollinger Motors released renderings of a pickup variant of its B1 sport utility, the likenesses between the two vehicles was impossible to ignore. Sporting the same all-electric, all-wheel drive approach to power and performance as the B1, the B2 pickup truck is slated to be an open-bed alternative to the boxy B1. Despite the fact that the final stages of the B1 are still being ironed out, the B2 Pickup was a logical evolution of the hand-built 4×4, with a full suite of what the company likes to refer to as “distinctively designed EV trucks” waiting in the wing.

“The new B2 incorporates everything that we’ve learned in making the B1, and takes it in an exciting new direction,” comments  founder Robert Bollinger. “It’s always been the plan to have both the B1 and B2 start off our line-up. Now that we have so much incredible data from testing our B1 prototype, we can put all of that engineering knowledge into our final four-door B1 and B2 vehicles. It’s the pickup I always wanted, and something crazy better than what’s available on the market today.”

Engineered to be both formidable as all hell off-road, while retaining full street-legal status, both the B1 Sport Utility Truck and new B2 Pickup pack an array of interesting automotive mechanics and amenities. All-electric, with dual motors on board, the all-wheel drive trucks feature things like an all-aluminum body, hydropneumatic suspension, in-wheel portal gear hubs, 120-kWh battery packs, monstrous front trunk space, and patented pass-through doors for transporting extra long items like freshly felled timber for that cabin you’ve been contemplating.

Let's see someone try this with a standard gas-powered pickup!

According to the company’s official press release, storage has always been a priority for the brand, and when designing the B2, it was no different. In order to make the most of its broad stance and hulking rear half, Bollinger Motors built its bed to be 4’1” wide by 5’9” long, so that with the internal cab tailgate down, the Bollinger Motors Pickup could carry full-size 4×8-square-foot sheets of plywood without issue. Factor in the way in which the rear glass opens up much like the B1, thus allowing storage to reach the top of the cab, and suddenly the B2 becomes more of a workhorse than previously predicted, allowing up to 72 sheets of plywood inside!

Just like its closed roof predecessor, the B2 is a Class 3 work truck, with a 10,001-pound gross vehicle weight rating being the pickup’s standard, as well as a payload capacity of 5,000 pounds, and max towing topping out at 7,500 pounds. This grunt is derived from a dual motor (front and rear) layout that generates a substantial 520 horsepower and 514 foot-pounds of torque, while hitting 60 in just 6.5 seconds. Throw in an estimated 200-mile range and 75 minute Level 3 (DC Fast) charging times, and you’ve got a pretty versatile electric pickup truck on your hands.

With the final stages of B1 engineering almost wrapped-up, and the company’s move from New York to Michigan complete, Bollinger Motors claims that it now plans to manufacture the B2 on the same assembly line as the B1 by 2020, with announcements regarding the brand’s full suite of vehicle options, pricing, and delivery details coming in 2019. They are currently taking reservations for the B1 and B2 on their website with no money down, so if this looks like a something you might want in your stable, head over to the Bollinger website.
