Crandon, Winsconsin–every year, the last weekend of August turns this quiet town of less than 2,000 people into a fun, fast, and very muddy place to be. Everyone and their mother come in droves to see greats like Rob MacCachren, Curt Leduc, and Johnny Greaves do what they do best: drive.
The Traxxas Torc Series, presented by Amsoil, kicked off this past Saturday with some great rip-roarin’ action. The 1.25-mile track, with its wide open views, gave the spectators just what they were expecting as trucks, buggies, and old-timey “classix” vehicles flung mud and fiberglass all over the place.
August 30th kicked off the right way with a parade through the middle of town. Regular folks entered in their own floats, provided they were “race-themed.” Shortly thereafter, everyone gathered round the Potawatomi bleachers and barstools to see several classes of racers duke it out for trophies and some champagne.
Rob MacCachran had a field day in the opening action. In the celebrated Pro 4×4 races, Rob MacCachran dominated the field, beating out Ricky Johnson and Mark Jenkins and securing himself Oakley’s Bomb Award for the fastest 4×4 lap of the day. Fellow Fox Team father-and-son racers, Johnny and CJ Greaves, were on their A-game
Johnny did well the first day, bringing up the 4th place slot and giving himself a benchmark to work toward the next day. CJ had a better first day, placing 19th in the 2×4 class and 1st in the Pro Light class. He even managed to snag his own Bomb for the fastest lap in a 2×4.
The top performers for the 2×4 class once again found MacCachran in their midst, this time occupying the 2nd place position. First and third went to Jeff Kincaid and Bryce Menzies. Justin Lofton and another driver got into it on the track, but race officials were having none of it.
The next day proved another round of success for Rob Mac, as he now swept up another Oakley Bomb and came in first for the Pro 4 and third in the Pro 2 class. The 32-year veteran of most things off-road was an unstoppable force in Crandon, and continues to hold his own against challengers both young and old. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.

Sliding into second and third in the Pro 4 were Scott Douglas and Johnny Greaves, respectively. Pro 2s saw Bryce Menzies jump two places up, winning 1st place and securing a Bomb to take back west on the way home, with Chad Hord taking the silver and Rob Mac taking the bronze.

But it was the main event that had everyone dying of anticipation: the 4th Amsoil Cup race, pitting Pro 4 and Pro 2 drivers in an all-out battle to the finish line. The top three spots were occupied by Chad Hord in 3rd, CJ Greaves in 2nd, and father Johnny in 1st. By the last four laps, however, it was clear that Hord had no chance of catching up to the Greaves’.
It was a real photo finish for the Greaves’, with CJ just barely edging out the 1st place win as the duo jumped past the checkered flag. Way to go, CJ!
All in all, it was one hell of an awesome weekend. We wish everyone who took part in making this race a success good luck with next year, and hopefully we here at Off Road Xtreme will be able to make it up there when August rolls around again.
