Cool Builds: 2005 Ford Ranger, AKA The “Danger Ranger”

3674A member on the Ford Ranger forum, ranger-forums.com, bought a stock 2005 Ford Ranger Edge 4×4 and turned it into a dream truck. Going by the username joshyddog, he posted the progress as he went along. This one is worth noting for the effort and style that made it come together (and how about that color? Cobalt Blue!)

DSCF6215Joshyddog got the truck in great condition. He christened it by giving the bone-stock Ranger a run through the mountains to see how she’d hold up. A four-inch lift kit and a CB radio antenna were the next things on the list, plus some leaf springs. It started to come along pretty nicely.

A whole bunch of mods followed: a new hitch, bump stops, rear shocks, and a new bumper, along with some other touch-ups. A snazzy back canopy was added, and it being windowless gave the truck more of a safe and solid look (and adds a bit of mystery).

Before (left) running bone stock and after (right) with four-inch lift kit and other mods.

Some coilovers were added as a nice touch, giving a good amount of support for what this Ranger is used to. Rock sliders were now a part of the equation; a solid addition to the outdoors-y truck.

What really made this a Ranger worth noting was the character and use joshyddog put into it without going overboard. He didn’t install a new exhaust because the stock held up just fine and he liked his truck quiet. It seems that he chose to improve certain elements, rather than changing everything just because that’s the expectation of modifying a vehicle.

It’s not unheard of to find people who lift and mod their trucks, but don’t use it for anything other than standard driving from day-to-day locations. Fortunately, joshyddog is the kind of dude who makes mods to his vehicles and sees them get put to good use. Well done on this Ranger, joshyddog. Well done.
