Cars, Explosions, Guns, HELL YEAH! Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer #1

We thought we were ready when we first clicked on the link for the Mad Max: Fury Road trailer. Months ago, we caught a glimpse of what was to come in a worldwide teaser that arrived in August, and we thought, “Hey, that looks pretty good.” How could you go wrong with some lifted hot rods flipping, gas tankers exploding, and monster trucks making big jumps? We gave it our collective thumbs-up and went about our day.

MMFR_01And then we saw links for this new trailer, and clicked on them. And HOLY S&#! was all we could muster after watching this video. The action seen in the teaser is about a tenth of what we see in the full trailer here; it’ll take some time to calm down, that’s for sure.

Okay, okay…we’re calm now. So let’s break this mother down. First, we’ve got Tom Hardy playing the eponymous “Mad” Max Rockatansky, everyone’s favorite post-apocalyptic antihero. The trailer seems to suggest that at some point, he’s taken prisoner by some savage group of motorists, suspended on pole, and whipped around as everything around him blows up. Beats starving to death in the desert, in our opinion.

Next, there’s Charlize Theron, sporting a robotic left arm and looking about as badass as possible. She plays a headstrong leader type called Imperator Furiosa, and while her motives are a little murky at this point, it’s probably fair to say that she’s on the side of good, with gun in hand and some random kids in tow.

MMFR_07The lead villian looks to be the skull-mask-wearing muchacho, Immortan Joe, played by Hugh Keays-Byrne. In an interesting twist, Keays-Byrne was actually one of the actors in the original 1979 Mad Max, where he played Toecutter, a co-leader of the Acolytes motorcycle gang. The two characters seem unrelated to one another, but it should be interesting to see what Keays-Byrne’s performance brings to the table this time.

The film is slated for release on May 15th, 2015, so it’ll be out in theaters before we know it. In the meantime, which of these killer cars seen in the trailer was your favorite? Pick your favorite and let us know what it is in the comments below.
