Off-Road racer and trophy truck champion, B.J. Baldwin, is back in another high-energy and explosive Recoil stunt video. But this time around, for Recoil Reloaded: Sand & Sky, Baldwin is teamed up with Black Rifle Coffee Owner Mat Best. The duo are essentially driver and co-driver, racing against themselves, or perhaps a cloned pair of themselves. It is Porsche against Trophy Truck in a fiery – and funny – death-defying race for…a cup of coffee.
Recoil Reloaded: Sand & Sky includes action-packed shots of eight-time off-road racing champion and BRCC driver B.J. Baldwin, and BRCC owner Mat Best as they navigate a hot pursuit toward the missing shipment of highjacked java. The short film runs for nearly ten minutes. There are about six and a half minutes of actual stunt driving before the behind-the-scenes b-roll cuts in.
During the opening scene, there is a comedic dialogue exchanged. Soon after, the first actual stunt takes place, which is quite marvelous. Shockingly, B.J. slides his personal 2019 Porsche 991.2 Turbo S sideways underneath a moving 18-wheeler transport trailer. From there to the end, the high-octane driving stunts get better, bigger, and more extreme. We are talking huge air trophy truck jumps, power slides, and mega explosions. As a fan of the Recoil video series, we are pumped to see something like this brought back.
Looking Back At B.J. Baldwin’s Recoil Video Series
The last time we saw Baldwin star in a Recoil video, was back in 2017 when B.J. was ripping his trusty stead through the streets of Havanna, Cuba for Recoil 4. That production earned over 21 million views! Recoil 3, in 2015, saw Baldwin hunting down “Bruce” the Sasquatch through the Pacific Northwest and capturing another 13 million eyeballs. In 2014, Recoil 2 unleashed B.J. south of the border to settle a bet with international playboy Dan Bilzerian in the streets of Ensenada, Mexico. Their big antic triggered almost 55 million YouTube views. The original Recoil 1, from April of 2013, has seen 25 million views in almost ten years since the time of publishing.
That is a very impressive 114 million views on YouTube alone! One notable difference is that this will be Baldwin’s first Recoil film without the “big green M”. B.J. dropped Monster Energy and aligned with Black Rifle Coffee Company back in 2021. He then went on to earn a Best In The Desert Trick Truck Championship in 2022 giving BRCC prominence in the off-road energy drink rivalry.
For Recoil Reloaded: Sand & Sky – Motivation
The eight-time off-road racing champion and Black Rifle Coffee Company driver B.J. Baldwin said “it was time,” after a five-year hiatus, to revive the popular Recoil video series. And when he asked Black Rifle Coffee Company (BRCC) about the project, the answer was simple: ABSOLUTELY!
“Yes, we took the Porsche into the desert, and it was frickin’ awesome,” said Baldwin, the original creator of the viral YouTube series. “Recoil Reloaded was only limited by imagination and the ‘all-in’ attitude of Black Rifle Coffee Company.” – B.J. Baldwin
The officially released announcement goes on in detail about the project. Thanks to the talents of film director MacGregor and Sweatpants Media Production – and only revealed at the end of the movie – Baldwin actually pilots both vehicles in the production, highlighting Black Rifle’s latest brew, which is “so powerful, it’s like cloning yourself.”
Recoil Reloaded: Sand & Sky – Big Moments!
The video combines action footage with Black Rifle Coffee Company’s comedic flair, beginning with Best and Baldwin driving his Porsche Turbo S through the streets of El Centro, Calif. at 100+ mph chasing down a stolen load of Black Rifle Coffee. After narrowly escaping an 18-wheeler – by sliding underneath it in a shower of metal-on-metal sparks – the wick is lit when Baldwin’s trophy truck appears – piloted by a mysterious adversary hidden behind a tinted visor and determined to beat the Porsche as they both pursue the highjacked java.
Power slides, dust clouds, and serious incendiary devices punctuate the race through an abandoned powerplant, narrowly missing structures and clipping a gas line that sets off a fiery explosion. Faced with the predicament of a passing train, the Black Rifle Coffee Company trophy truck takes the path of least resistance – up and over the train cars, reaching the height of a three-story house and flying the length of nearly a football field. So far in the air, in fact, that he missed the landing.
Is It All About Coffee?
The high-flying, sand-slinging race concludes in the iconic dunes of Glamis, Calif., where both sports car and trophy truck find the stolen Black Rifle Coffee truck – with fresh brew ready and waiting. Baldwin’s mysterious nemesis removes his helmet to reveal that he was actually racing against himself the whole time, fulfilling the promise that Black Rifle Coffee’s new brew is so powerful, drinking it makes you feel like there are two of you.

B.J. Baldwin Off-Road Racing Accolades
The eight-time off-road racing champion joined the Black Rifle Coffee Company motorsports team in April 2021 and has returned to his winning ways. Last year, Baldwin won the Best in the Desert Trophy Truck championship winning three events, and podium finishes in five of the six events. B.J. is the only back-to-back Baja 1000 Ironman champion in history (2012 and 2013), driving the entirety of both races.
