AM General and FCA Develop Jeep Gladiator XMT Tactical Concept

AM General has been building light tactical military vehicles for many years, and we all know the history of Jeep and the U.S. Military. AM General and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles teamed up to utilize the Jeep Gladiator’s class-leading specifications and capabilities to produce a lightweight and premium grade vehicle for use around the world. The two companies introduced the Jeep Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck (XMT) at the Annual Meeting and Exposition of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA).

We are extremely excited to partner with FCA and introduce the Jeep Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck at AUSA,” said AM General President and CEO Andy Hove. “This new venture gives us an opportunity to showcase our expertise in light tactical vehicles and help FCA maximize the Gladiator’s global reach and potentially enter new military markets.”

The all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator grabbed the title of “Most Capable midsize truck” with a class-leading 7,650 pounds of towing capacity with an up-to 1,600-pound payload capacity. AM General took notice and knew a collaborative effort between the two companies would produce a vehicle ideal for global customers’ needs for a light-weight military truck.

“The Jeep brand has an important military heritage, so we couldn’t be happier that AM General expressed interest in creating the Gladiator XMT,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – North America. “The all-new Jeep Gladiator boasts unmatched functionality, versatility and especially capability, including two advanced 4×4 systems, locking differentials, skid plates, tow hooks, and incredible approach, break-over and departure angles – the perfect foundation for this ultra-capable military concept vehicle.”

AM General has proven their manufacturing and engineering expertise with the iconic Humvee and is able to apply those same techniques to the Gladiator for mission-specific vehicles as well as general use in extreme environments.

Depending on feedback and interest in the military marketplace, the production of gasoline and diesel versions of the truck could start as soon as the second half of 2020.
