At the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, the Jeep® Brand revealed their 20th Anniversary Editions of the 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 4xe and 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 392. In case you missed the reveal, Off Road Xtreme is here to break down the highlights of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary Editions.
Keep in mind, these details all specifically relate to the 20th Anniversary Editions Rubicons, and we suspect that the traditional Rubicon model will still be available for the 2023 model year vehicle.
The big news is the big price and also very limited production availability! The special 20th Anniversary Edition Rubicons are exclusive. For starters, it is only currently available on the Rubicon 4XE (starting at $69,585) and HEMI 392 (starting at $90,895) 2023 models. So what does that hefty investment get you? Besides typical Rubicon equipment and upgrades, here is the shortlist: a very small lift, a tool kit, an exotic red-and-black leather interior package, a new seven-slot grille, a grille guard, rock sliders, plaques, badging, the special edition exterior color options, and a graphics package.
What Is Exciting About The 20th Anniversary Edition Rubicons
The biggest thing that caught my attention during the whole announcement was Mopar decided to take another bite out of the automotive aftermarket playbook. We have seen popular upgrades being added to the Jeep accessories catalog before and this time it is a brilliant move. A factory-installed onboard air compressor will be an option for the first time ever. This should delight Jeep enthusiasts, however, the information in the official press release says that this particular upgrade is exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary edition.

The only other thing that moved the needle for 4×4 nerds was the news of American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) official integration into the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary Editions. Upgrading to this AEV Level II upfit will fetch more than a $20,000 chunk on top of the purchase price. The AEV Level II package allocates 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A® KO2 tires, WARN Winch, Bilstein Shocks, and a host of AEV equipment. The vehicle specifications should turn heads with an unmatched 14.2 inches of ground clearance, 37.1 inches water fording, 50-degree approach angle, 33-degree breakover angle, and 43-degree departure angle.

How To Order A Rubicon 20th Anniversary Wrangler Or Similar?
These limited-edition Wranglers will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Customers can place orders through their local Jeep dealer this month. Vehicles will ship directly from the Toledo (Ohio) Assembly Complex to AEV for upfitting and then to the customer’s dealer of choice. Production of the Rubicon 20th anniversary models is scheduled to begin in this quarter, with vehicles arriving in dealerships in the second quarter of 2023.

In this announcement, they paid tribute to the “Lunatic Fringe”, a small group of enthusiastic Jeep engineers who concepted what a better, more capable, Jeep could be from the factory. The folks who were ultimately responsible for the first Rubicon twenty years ago. With all respect to Jeep, Mopar, and Stellantis, we are happy to see the factory produce the “most capable Wranglers” to date. However the heavy price tag seems like a poke in the eye to average consumers, and the folks in the factories manufacturing the Jeeps. How does the original fringe feel about these high-priced Jeeps, and who are the lunatics putting six figure window stickers on them?
Long story made short, do not wait if you must have the special prestige of the 20-year plaques. If you can do without, save up your dough, wheel and deal for parts, and get comparable performance for a fraction of the price.
