The Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF) has announced its 2020 inductees. Joining the celebrated group of people or organizations that have made a real difference in the world of off-road racing and recreation this year are: Bob Bower, Dean Bulloch, Danny Foddrill, Jack Johnson, Roger Mears, Cal Wells III, and Tom White.

These seven will be officially inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame sometime in early 2021. The induction ceremony, awards banquet, and charity auction held ever year in conjunction with the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been put on hold for the moment, but plans are being made at this very moment to reschedule.

The list of Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame members reads like a who’s-who of off-road legends. These seven new inductees all deserve their place in the spotlight, and are now being given their rightful celebration.

Bob Bower is a car guy that dreamed of races like the Mexican Carrera Panamericana and Baja 1000 from an early age. Joining the BF Goodrich team in 1977 gave him the opportunity to have a transformative influence on off-road racing pit and race operations.

Dean Bulloch began racing in the 1970s, operated a successful powersports dealership, and was a major player on the NHRA drag bike scene. Then, one day in 1998, he built a rock buggy. Need we say more? Dean never looked back, winning five world championships with more than 80 rock-crawling wins.

In the late 1960s, Danny Foddrill and his buddies would ride out into the desert and have their own little races with home-built Jeeps, buggies, and dirt-bikes. In 1975, Danny started working at Palmer’s Custom Speed (creator of the famous Chaparral chassis) and began driving, designing, building, and sponsoring countless race cars and special parts for the next 40 years.

From the late 1960s through to the 1990s, Jack Johnson was the rider to beat in the desert motorcycle racing world. He stands out among champions with more than 20 overall wins in the desert on motorcycles or in cars or trucks over the last four decades, and Jack still rides recreationally on his beloved KTM 300.

Roger Mears has 20 World Off-Road Championships at the historic Riverside International Raceway, four Baja 1000 wins, five Pikes Peak International Hill Climb titles, two HDRA/SCORE series championships, and a Mickey Thompson Stadium Series Truck crown.

Roger Mears needs no introduction to racing fans, his career in IndyCar competition numbers 31 races, including two Indy 500s, scoring 17 top 10 finishes. However, it was in off-road racing that Roger really shined, with a remarkable 20 World Off-Road Championships at the historic Riverside International Raceway, four Baja 1000 wins, five Pikes Peak International Hill Climb titles, two HDRA/SCORE series championships, and a Mickey Thompson Stadium Series Truck crown.

Only hardcore off-road racing fans will know the name Cal Wells III, but his love of racing combined with mechanical, engineering, and organizational genius led to one of the most successful off-road racing endeavors in the sport’s history. Cal’s company Precision Preparation Inc. (PPI) partnered with Toyota and dominated the desert and short-course off-road racing world with trucks driven by a guy named Ivan Stewart.

Tom White grew up riding motorcycles and was soon competing at a professional level in flat track events. Tom passed away in 2017, but the business he and his brother built, White Brothers Cycle Specialties, grew into a $40 million a year, 200-employee company. It allowed Tom to assemble a substantial collection of rare and vintage motorcycles, and create and support a number of special charity motorcycle events.

The Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those individuals and organizations that made lifelong contributions to off-road motorsports. All of the inductees are honored for their dedication to improving and advancing off-road racing and recreation.
