“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” These words are a tribute to the service that America’s postal workers provide every day, and this Ford F-550 Super Duty perfectly exemplifies the same. This modified Ford pickup is used to make deliveries throughout Yellowstone in some of the harshest climate conditions.

The region has four seasonal post offices which close down when weather conditions become too brutal. This is when Rangers start making their 150-mile runs (twice a week) to deliver packages to eagerly awaiting recipients. The truck used for this endeavor is a modified third-generation Ford F-550 which is powered by Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke motor.

In its stock tune, the Ford F-550’s V8 diesel engine produces anywhere between 390 to 440 HP of maximum power and 735 lb-ft to 860 lb-ft of peak torque. This noble workhorse has been in commission for quite a while so, it is unclear how much power it still generates. The truck rides on 10-lug steel wheels, which are wrapped in Michelin’s 560/60R22.5 CARGOXBIB high-flotation tires.

Components like steering, brakes, suspension, and drivetrain were upgraded to maneuver and accommodate the truck’s giant wheels. To ensure the safety of its precious cargo, Torklift Stableload blocks were installed at the rear, and a Detroit Locker Super 60 axle was installed upfront.

The front suspension mounts were relocated, and the truck was lifted by 8 inches. Fender extensions were added to avoid any damage that the debris flying off of the tires may cause. The front-end also gets a heavy-duty bumper which also acts as a platform that allows the drivers to have a look under the hood. All in all, this purpose-built ensemble is just as rugged as the brave men and women that pilot it.
