While on the hunt for compelling SEMA Show content, we always make the effort to stop by the Eaton Performance booth. Typically we would find a very high-end customized restomod truck or classic Bronco, but this year we were surprised to find a late-model Toyota known as The Dark Yota Tacoma.

The Tacoma immediately caught my attention because it was propped up on some rather large Race Ramp Wheel Cribs, packing a coilover long-travel suspension, and a wide body kit among many other modifications. I went to give it a closer inspection and found the owner Joshua Oats hanging around so I decided to get the full scoop on this rad ride.

Josh was your average truck enthusiast till his Toyota Tacoma build began consuming his life. Now, Josh is a full-blown influencer and content creator who has amassed a large following on YouTube and Instagram. He even launched an online storefront where he can help coach other truck enthusiasts about how to effectively build their own vehicles. With these efforts, Josh and his @the_dark_yota have attracted dozens of affiliate partnerships that support his endeavors, and vehicle project, and even help get him into events like the SEMA Show.

SEMA 2023: The Dark Yota Tacoma Featured In The Eaton Booth

The Dark Yota is decked out front to back and wears a custom-designed “dark” camouflage vinyl wrap. Underneath the hood, a Harrop Supercharger using Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) technology provides extra power to push the heavily loaded Tacoma around.

Oats continued, “Next year, I am considering swapping to a Marlin Crawler system that is better suited for the Colorado terrain. We are also working with Currie Enterprises on a new 9-inch rear axle that is maybe 5 inches wider than the factory. Everyone can come check the truck out at Overland Expo West and Mountain West next year and maybe SEMA again.”
