It is no secret that tire upgrades are one of the off-road vehicle enthusiasts’ favorite vehicle modifications. There are many to choose from, and at the 2022 SEMA Show, we were on the hunt to find some more. Front and center in the South Hall’s Global Tire Expo was Cooper Tire. I could not ignore the massive footprint and the radical booth vehicles on display.

Perusing around I caught wind that two of Cooper’s flagship off-road tires were expanding the available sizes to satisfy the trends of off-road enthusiasts. The company announced at SEMA that 14 additional sizes between its Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek and Discoverer STT Pro lines.

While Cooper currently covers the vast majority of mud terrain tire sizes in the market, tire enthusiasts now have an even bigger, stronger tire assortment to help them travel off-road with confidence and stylize their vehicle. — Michiel Kramer, Goodyear. 

Jenny Paige, the Product Marketing Manager for Cooper Tire showed us around the booth and explained some of the unique aspects of the Rugged Trek and STT Pro tires.

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek

Cooper’s Discoverer Rugged Trek tire cranks up the off-road capability to another level. Jenny describes these tires as having admirable off-road performance but still comfortable for everyday street driving. We are excited to see Cooper bring a new 37×12.50R20LT flotation tire as part of a 10-size expansion for the Rugged Trek. This actually started during the summer of 2022 and will continue into the first quarter of 2023 when all planned sizes hit distribution.

Cooper Discoverer STT Pro

The Cooper Discoverer STT Pro is described as their ultimate off-road enthusiast Mud terrain tire. Jenny emphasizes the 3-ply Armor Tek3 Technology provides rugged durability and guards against sidewall punctures. Perhaps the most unique aspect is the patented flex grove design that allows for enhanced traction when the tire is aired down.

Cooper has listed the largest size for the STT PRO as a 40X13.5R17LT LRC. But they did add and unveil four newly developed flotation sizes including 35X12.50R22LT LRF, 33X12.50R20LT LRF, 35X12.50R18LT LRD, and 35X12.50R17LT LRE.
