We visited the Energy Suspension booth at SEMA recently, where we caught the ear of polyurethane-bushing-guru Kyle Martin to discuss the brand’s latest “Hyperflex” products. While the hype around the latest Jeep Wrangler chassis continues to dominate the news, it appears that Energy Suspension has other platforms in its sights.

Take this modified 2011 Chevy Silverado, for instance, which we found sitting in the middle of Energy’s booth. Featuring Energy Suspension’s brand-new line of 2007-2014 GM 1500 4×4 master bushings, this pickup packs a product designed to replace every factory rubber component on the truck with polyurethane. These even include engine mounts for reduced powerplant motion, as well as transmission and differential mounts.

Unlike the stock rubber components commonly found on automobiles, Energy Suspension’s “Hyperflex” polyurethane bushings resist oil, grease, road contaminants, and more, giving them the ability to last the lifetime of a vehicle. Martin explains that by upgrading to Energy Suspension Hyperflex bushings, you also negate having to replace an entire suspension component.

When asked why these kits are ideal for off-road builds, Martin elaborates that polyurethane’s resistance to dirt and other natural contaminants, along with Energy Suspension’s unrivaled durability, make it a perfect upgrade. Regarding articulation, Martin explains that it either remains the same as stock or on certain items, like Energy Suspension’s Jeep upper control arm kit, a whopping 25-percent increase in articulation can be achieved over the stock offering.

He also informs us that Energy Suspension is “…slowly rolling that technology over into more applications,” which is exciting to hear, considering this sort of solution is something many off-road enthusiasts have needed.

As far as greasing goes, Martin says, “The biggest note I would give anyone when installing polyurethane [bushings] is to grease it correctly, right at the beginning, before installing. Grease the components, grease the bushings, grease the sleeves…”

For those of you who are already wondering, Energy Suspension also provides plenty of grease with all of its kits. However, if you hear some squeaking down the road, Martin suggests throwing some Formula 5 pre-lube onto the noisy component before hitting your next trail pass.
