SEMA 2016: Webasto Dropping The Top And Keeping It Cool For Jeeps

Webasto was originally founded at the beginning of the 20th century and produces OE roof systems, air conditioning units and heating components, aftermarket sunroof retrofit kits, and refrigeration systems for the automotive industry. They are also regarded as one of the top 100 companies to contribute to the industry worldwide.

While at the 2016 SEMA Show, we stopped by Webasto’s booth and were greeted by Kristie Carino, who filled us in on what new products Webasto has to offer to the off-road market.

“One of our most exciting new products for the aftermarket is Webasto’s ThrowBack folding fabric roof for the JK, giving you the ultimate open-cabin experience for your Jeep,” said Carino. “To guarantee its ruggedness, we off-road torture tested our ThrowBack roof over a period of three years on the Rubicon and Moab trails, as well as other various trails across the United States and Canada before releasing it to the public.”

“The Throwback roof installs much more easily and uses the same tools that are used to install or remove the Wrangler’s factory Freedom Panels,” says Carino. “It also exceeds OE standards for water intrusion and safety; and simply uses the factory mounting locations for your stock Freedom Panel.”

Webasto’s FF31 portable fridge or freezer, secured using the included cargo surround, security storage system (CS3) and slide outs, which can both also be purchased separately.

Carino then walked us around to the back of the Wrangler and opened up the rear hatch to show us some awesome accessories and utilities designed specifically for those long trail rides. “Webasto’s new dual purpose 31-quart fridge or freezer (FF31) was strategically designed to fit perfectly in the rear of your JK,” Carino explains. “It even includes tie-down points integrated into the body to secure it while maneuvering rough trails and rock crawling.”

“The FF31 uses an industry leading Secop hermetic compressor to guarntee a long and reliable service life, and even features a built-in 3-stage battery protection system and an internal operating temperature range of 0 to 50 degrees F,” concludes Carino.

Carino then noted to us that the surround that the FF31 mounts within can also be purchased separately for your own storage and security needs. “The CS3 cargo surround and security storage system can even be used independently of the FF31 unit and dual cargo slide outs,” says Carino. “The CS3 secures directly to to the Wrangler’s base plate, offering robust protection for your valuables. The system has removable pass-through doors that can be removed to accommodate for the storage of longer items.”

If the CS3 is purchased separately from the FF31, the Webasto cargo base plate must be purchase separately and installed first before using the CS3 system.

Webasto’s new line of comfort and practical products for the Jeep Wrangler (JK) are sure to be a welcome addition to the off-road market, where enthusiasts will be sure to use these products to their full extent.
