Factory parts are great until the vehicle is pushed beyond the limits it was intended for. The Jeep Wrangler JK is one vehicle that the factory components will only handle so much abuse.
The folks at Dynatrac have come up with an upgrade to the 60 series axles. “The standard 60 series axles are 35-spline,” Gene Lukianov, Engineer at Dynatrac, explained. “When you jump up to the 40-spline axles you get a 1.5-inch diameter axle shaft. The 40-spline axles come with 1550 joints or an RCV 30.”
Dynatrac's 40-spline axles (left), coil spring locking hub (center), and beefed up Auburn Gear electronic locking differential.
In addition to the 40-spline axles they are offering a 40-spline Dynamic hub. It has been upsized to fit the larger axles, but it includes a coil spring instead of a wave spring for better action. Dynatrac is working with Auburn gear to create an electric locking differential that will fit the 40-spline axles without loosing wall thickness in the journals and use bigger bearings.
New housings have been machined to accept the new super bearings and larger axle shafts. “We now offer two types of 60 housings,” Lukianov said. “We offer a housing that fits a nine and three-quarter ring gear, but now offer our Super 60 that fits a 10.1 ring gear. The 10.1 ring gear axle uses aluminum knuckles to keep the weight the same.”
Dynatrac offers their axles in three different kits:
Serious Performance: ProRock 44 and ProRock 60 – $10,595
Hardcore: ProRock 60 and Pro 60 – $11,990
Elite: ProRock XD 60 and ProRock 80 – $16,990
