PRI 2018: Energy Suspension Offers New JL Caster Kit and Bump Rubber

Instead of committing to a single-purpose suspension setup, many want to retain some semblance of civility in their Jeep Wrangler JL. To address the level-headed, but off-road oriented enthusiasts out there, Energy Suspension has offered two new products to improve handling without permanently altering their Wrangler’s suspension setup.

Their new camber correction kit “allows the factory control arms to articulate like a heim-joint control arm would, but with the ease of installation, and the ability to return to stock configuration if needed,” says Sean Crary, Sales Manager for Energy. These kits can be installed as a DIY item with only simple hand tools, and can be removed at a later date if the Wrangler is returned to stock.

Energy Suspension’s Rock-Flex Caster Correction Kit is an easy solution to restoring confident steering control to lifted JL Wranglers

These caster kit dual-durometer configuration means no looseness in fore-aft motion, but without the rebound associated with a stiffer, or glued-in, bushing. The softer outer layer prevents springiness and is happy to return to center; part of the appeal of polyurethane. The bushings improve overall predictability while still ensuring a comfortable ride.

Their new jounce bumpers use the same ethos. Though they feel like stock and replicate the stock jounce rate, they offer higher performance; more stability, durability, and strength over the long-term. This is an overlooked but incredibly important part of the suspension package which Energy, always concerned with the fine details, has delved into deeply. Addressing these parts is one of the last steps of fine-tuning an dual purpose on-road/off-road suspension setup.

Energy Suspension has engineered a tuneable bumpstop for JL Jeep Wranglers

“If you need more ride height or more suspension travel, you cut a level off,” Crary adds. Fortunately, Energy has taken the guesswork out of this tricky business. All of these parts are provided with a dyno curve to inform the customer what sort of rate they’ll have when they start cutting into the bump rubber. For those looking for total adjustability, a thought-out tuning guide for the typical tinkerer, and factory levels of ride comfort, these items would make wonderful upgrades.
