Here at Off Road Xtreme we are huge fans of unique engine swaps. We love it even more when that engine swap happens to flip the switch on something that hadn’t originally even been considered fast. This particular swap features the once sluggish Nissan Patrol.

And as you might expect, a powerplant yanked from an R33 Skyline wakes this Patrol up with a level of energy it has never known before. We pretty sure the driver is enjoying himself a great deal.

If you’ve never traveled out of the “States,” there’s a high probability that you’ve never heard of the Patrol before and for good reason. Very few were imported to the U.S. and the few that were have been nabbed by Nissan enthusiasts decades ago. The report in Carscoops we found stated it well it well, saying the Nissan Patrol “has made a name for itself as a rugged and capable off road vehicle.”

However, it is certainly not something that you would expect to see speeding along a dirt road Baja-race style. This Bulgarian-built rig is a different story as you can plainly see in the video above. The club meet and rally seen in the video below shows another bunch of Patrols that are highly modified and stuffed with more Nissan RB engines–man can they move!

Not much is known about the builder of the R33/Patrol or it’s other mod’s, but the author of the videos tells us that the subject of the top video is a fourth-generation Patrol (codenamed Y60 and built between 1987 and 1997).

We also not aware if the RB25DET engines in the others are stock or not, but our sources show the 2.5-liter turbocharged I-6 cranked out anywhere from 245 to 276 HP, depending on the version. What is obvious is that they both sound awesome and perform extraordinarily, especially when compared to the patrician stock Patrol.
