Have you ever heard of the most interesting man in the world? Yeah we’re talking about that guy from the beer commercials that never seems to have a dull moment in life. Well, it looks as if we found something reminiscent of his personal collection. You might think this is a joke, but it’s real and in the flesh. In this video, Stewart Hamel, the CEO of SkyRunner walks us through and demonstrates the company’s latest innovation.
The machine you see is partially an average all-terrain dune buggy. It’s the other half of the equation that has us asking Santa to make additions to our list. When the buggy isn’t on the ground, it’s busy doubling as a lightweight aircraft. No, this isn’t some home-brewed disaster. It looks to us as if these this thing is the real deal. On solid ground the buggy will do 0-60 MPH in about four seconds and is capable of up to 115 mph. That’s faster than the limiter on some trucks!
With just a few simple steps you can switch from “road mode” to “air mode.” From the way the design is described, it seems so simple the average Joe could do it in the blink of an eye. Once the parachute is in place the rig is taxied up to 35 MPH so it will take flight. Once in the air, it supposedly can do up to 55 MPH. If you’re feeling extra adventurous you’ll be able to fly up to an altitude of 15,000 feet. Hopefully you aren’t afraid of heights!
Think you have the guts to take on the “wealthy adventurous toy” as Hammel puts it? It’s almost ready to hit the market. The SkyRunner is currently in its third functioning prototype, but should be commercially available soon for your flying enjoyment.
