It is 2014 and the pace of technological innovation is at an all-time high. This past decade is arguably the most quickly progressing that the automotive industry has ever seen.

The driver can “see” the ground below the hood of this Land Rover as it climbs over this 31-degree slope hill.
Some innovation seems a bit over the top and unnecessary, while other new features are truly ground breaking. This latest could change the automotive landscape for years to come. Land Rover is currently developing new technology and we aren’t quite sure which of these categories it fits into.
Any way you want to look at it, the concept is inarguably awesome and definitely has a spot in some segment of the market. Exactly which is still to be determined.
They call it the “Transparent Bonnet” or “Transparent Hood” here in the states. The concept is simple; through a series of cameras and head-up display technology, the operator of the vehicle will be able to see what’s under the front of the vehicle, making the front wheels seemingly visible from the cockpit.
Not only will they be able to see dangerous terrain, but also the angle of the front wheels will be apparent. In theory this could help in tight spots or when facing unusually tough terrain.
While this technology is still new, it obviously has incredible implications for the off-road marketplace. In addition, if Land Rover were to take this technology another step forward to look through blind spots, that would be something that the average driver could use every day.
Land Rover says the technology will debut in it’s Discovery Vision concept at the 2014 New York Auto Show. With something this exciting and new, don’t worry, we will keep you posted. Stay tuned to Off Road Xtreme for more!
