The Glamis Dunes, in Southern California is one of those awesome locations to play with an off-road vehicle in the western U.S., and if you have not been there, you have to get there at some point in your life. For 10-year-old Ellery Gordon, that day came a lot sooner than normal when his dad, Craig Gordon, handed him the keys to the prized sand rail.
The video of that day starts off with the his Dad warning Ellery about how he wants this little joy ride to go: “Remember what I told you about how to shift and everything.” Ellery responds, “It’s like an ‘H’, right?” Dad affirms his son’s remark as he secures the foam rubber cushions that will help Ellery reach the pedals.
And just like that, the kid is off! We get a few good seconds of Ellery as he passes by before he goes on to do his awesome trick: a prolonged wheelie. Coming up off of an incline and onto the plateau his dad is standing on, the boy is able to maintain a stunning 10-second wheelie at 55 mph as the old man catches every magnificent moment on video.
Better than doing homework!
“Was that good?” Ellery chirps as he comes back in to see his excited and impressed dad. “Yeah, that was good!” says his very pleased father. We’re then treated with the stunt once more, this time at half-speed to see just how well this kid can hoon a sand rail.
And if he’s this good at just 10 years of age, with a father that supportive and camera-ready, we imagine the future will be bright for the little Gordon progeny. What was your earliest memory of off-roading thrills? Share a story or two down below and on Facebook!
