Electric Chevrolet Silverado EV Hits The Mint 400

Hold onto your hats, truck fans. Chevy’s not messing around. They’re going all-in on electric off-roading by racing a Silverado EV ZR2 concept at the legendary Mint 400.

Forget your typical electric truck; this is a purpose-built race machine, designed to show that electric power can handle anything you throw at it.

The Mint 400 is no joke. It’s a brutal, bone-jarring race that pushes vehicles to their absolute limit. And Chevy’s throwing their electric Silverado right into the fire.

Behind the wheel is veteran racer Chad Hall in the Open Production EV class. Hall Racing and Chevy have a history, with the team having already raced the Colorado ZR2 and Silverado ZR2.

So, what’s under the hood of this electric monster? Despite the “concept” label, Chevy says it uses about 98 percent production GM parts. The core is a three-motor electric setup that cranks out a ridiculous 1,100 horsepower and a mind-bending 11,500 pound-feet of torque. Seriously, that’s enough to make your head spin.

But raw power is not enough in the desert. The truck packs prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers and fancy suspension tech that give it over 13 inches of wheel travel. Meaty 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires also keeps this Silverado glued to the ground, no matter how rough it gets.

It also follows the ZR2 formula, like the Colorado and Silverado. Features include a suspension, Multimatic damper technology, locking differentials, and underbody skidplate protection.

The whole thing isn’t just for show, either. Chevrolet engineers are going to be right there with the Hall Racing team, soaking up all the data they can. Everything they learn about how this truck performs, how it holds up, and what it can’t do will go straight into making better production trucks, parts, and accessories. It’s like a real-time, high-stakes test lab.

And here’s the kicker: Chevy’s launching the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer – the company’s first real off-road-focused electric truck. That one will have a factory lift, 18-inch wheels, 35-inch tires, and a special “Terrain Mode” to help it squeeze through tight spots.

Will this electric Silverado make the team take home a win? Or will this become a challenge? The Mint 400 will be the ultimate proving ground for Chad Hall and the Chevy’s electric Silverado.
