The automotive world is filled with impressive male drivers, especially in off-road racing. However, Russian Pro-X driver Kata Karenina is breaking down gender boundaries as she competes with the best drivers in the industry, unphased by the dirt and grime off-road driving inevitably brings. Check her out in the video from the Rainforest Challenge Russia (RFC) off-road competition above, compliments of Daily Picks and Flicks.
Taking place at X-Arena, Pushkin, a specialized area for off-road and ATV use about 25 miles from Moscow, the RFC West Russia Autumn Edition kicked off on September 28, 2013, following the successful run of the RFC Prologue Special Stages event held on those grounds during the spring of the same year. Sponsored by Pro-X, the competition pinned 30 of the area’s best off-road drivers against one another in a unique competition with classes for ATVs as well as light, medium and heavy-duty off-road vehicles.
Russia is a tough country thanks to its climate any time of the year, but as seasons turn from fall to deep winter, the X-Arena offers an even more difficult terrain to conquer, including low-lying areas filled with deep watery mud.
While playing in the dirt may seem like more of a male dominated past-time, Karenina wasn’t phased at all by the mud bogs.
At points in the video, she even smiles and laughs at all the water spilling into her vehicle, at times getting deep enough that she has to lift up out of her seat for her head to stay above water.
Although we don’t quite know how long it took Karenina to get out of the muddy predicament she found herself in during the race, she seems rather satisfied at the end of the video. Still sitting chest deep in muddy water, she looks at the camera and states; “I’m up to my ears in sh*t, but I’m happy!”
How’s that for real love of the off-road sport?
