If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Well, until you break something, that is.
That’s what happened to our hero here at the Dirty Turtle Offroad Area, a 270-acre patch of earth in Bedford, Kentucky. Home to off-road enthusiasts of all stripes, the DTOA is a non-rated (owing to variable weather, driving experience, and class of vehicles on any given day) trail system that first opened for business three years ago.
Jeeps, 4x4s, buggies, motorbikes, and even UTVs, all take turns climbing terraced sections like these. Our hapless adventurer couldn’t resist its allure. His rig, however, could.
In Round One, our hero went all of 25 seconds before the intimidating climb sent him back down the hill in a professional-grade “endo.” Unfazed and unbroken, a quick restart of the engine got driver and RZR back on track.
In Round Two, the driver took his time after gauging his throttle and direction in another attempt. He backs up, applies the gas, and damn it all, gets stuck in the mud.
Swerving back and forth gets him loose again, then he mounts the step once, twice, three times, and then lets it rip to no avail. The poor RZR just can’t get the proper traction or momentum to overcome this obstinate obstacle.
Finally, the driver just goes YOLO on the hill and guns the engine, launching a few feet into the air before coming down on a bad angle. What follows is another “endo” and couple flips before the RZR lands on the driver’s side.
Spectators and officials alike rush to his aid, setting him upright and checking both his and the UTV’s condition. The footage in the video above shows he snapped a rear radius arm, effectively ending the days’ fun. He’ll be back, though; no self-respecting off-roader has ever let the adversity of terrain get the better of them. Off Road Xtreme is not so sure the problem is all about the terrain or the vehicle. What do you think?
