If you want to test the prowess of any off-roader, then the Hell’s Revenge trail in Moab, Utah offers the perfect testing ground. We recently reported that a few brave souls, including the YouTuber Justin B McBride tackled the infamous trail in 2021 Ford Broncos earlier this month.
Well, as it turns out, Andre Smirnov from TFLoffroad decided to up the ante by taking on the famous Moab off-road trail Hell’s revenge in a Mercedes Unimog 4X4. The Unimog is designed by Couch Off-road Engineering, and Andre was joined by the founder of the company Jay Couch.
Couch Off-road Engineering imports Mercedes Unimog and then modifies the semi-truck according to customer preferences. As Mercedes does not sell Unimogs in the United States, most of these models are from the 1990s, as they had to comply with the 25-year import rule.
The truck is powered by a 320 HP powerplant which produces 800 lb-ft of peak torque. The motor comes mated to an 8-speed manual gearbox, and Jay also revealed that all gears are reversible. This means one can theoretically drive this giant Mercedes truck in reverse at its top speed of 80 MPH.
The Mercedes Unimog carries a hefty price tag!
This Unimog gets a $385,000 price tag, and according to Jay Couch, the company’s clientele mostly includes enthusiasts with a passion to travel and explore the world.
With 19 inches of ground clearance and 46-inch tires, this analog off-road beast managed to dominate the Hell’s Revenge trail without even breaking a sweat. Nevertheless, watching this 4X4 rig take on the infamous Moab trail is an adrenaline-fuelled ride.
