Bilstein is taking the Gladiator up a notch with new shock absorbers for the newly popular Jeep pickup. The 8100 Series shocks offer this platform better off-road performance, robust durability, and true direct replacement to enhance the off-road driving experience.
We spoke with Bilstein’s Head of Product Management, Shane Casad, to learn more about the shocks. “The 8100 Smooth Body shocks are pre-tuned by our shock technicians,” he said. “This means that the valving has been carefully calibrated to optimize ride comfort and control.”
Bilstein’s pedigree in off-road racing came to bear during the development of the 8100 Series, as Casad explained. “Our vision was to apply over 30 years of off-road race shock knowledge into a direct-fit, top-of-the-line damper package,” he said. “Along with this, we took the term ‘direct-fit’ seriously. We went out of our way to fit the 8100s without requiring any drilling, cutting, or hacking!”
The 8100 Series boasts some incredible features that make it ideal for off-roading. “The 8100 Series includes a completely bolt-on billet reservoir mount,” began Casad. “It also uses vulcanized bushings that are extremely durable and maintenance-free. It also includes a lower mount relocation bracket. This lets the large 2.65-inch OD body have clearance from hitting the frame during full articulation.”
The 8100 Series also uses high-quality materials for its construction, making it a strong shock for off-roading. “Our build quality operates at the highest level,” commented Casad. “All billet components are aerospace quality and our build standards are very strict. Most notably, one of the metrics we use is operating temperature. These dampers can function properly at operating temperatures of up to 300º Fahrenheit.”
As a direct-replacement shock absorber, the 8100 Series is sure to be a welcome upgrade for Jeep Gladiators. To find out more, be sure to visit Bilstein’s website and don’t forget to follow them on Facebook.
